World & Timeline
The story unfolds in the Six-Faced World — a land of sword and sorcery, far removed from Earth, divided among five continents. The Central Continent, split in two by the Red Dragon Mountains, holds a poor and war-torn north, the peaceful and wealthiest west ruled by the Asura Kingdom, and a south where great powers wage endless feuds; humans make up most of its population. On the Demon Continent the land is barren and the monsters ferocious, with power parcelled out among dozens of self-styled Demon Lords. The Millis Continent is the northern forests of the Beast Race and the southern Holy Land of Millis, joined by the Holy Sword Highway. Begaritt is a land of labyrinths and magical anomalies peopled by adventurers of every race. And atop sheer cliffs some three thousand metres high spreads the Heaven (Divine) Continent of the Sky Race.
The world's richest nation is the Asura Kingdom in the west of the Central Continent. It is guarded by four great lord-houses — Notos, Boreas, Euros and Zepiros — who for generations stand first in the path of any foe. Eris belongs to House Boreas, while Paul's own roots lie in House Notos. Asura's stone roads run from one end of the realm to the other; food is plentiful and monsters few, making it the easiest place in the world to live — and so its prosperity rests as much on ruthless court intrigue as on the richness of its soil.
The three great races — human, demon and beast — are bound by old enmity and mutual mistrust, the legacy of the wars with Laplace. The Superd tribe suffers most: four hundred years after the war they are persecuted merely for their emerald-green hair, seen as the embodiment of evil — though they are in truth a proud people of warriors. The Beast Race of the Great Forest, in turn, is preyed upon by slavers who abduct its children, some destined for the Asuran nobility.
Two systems grant power in this world. Magic is graded by rank — Saint, King, Emperor and God class — and a mage's highest art is silent casting, spellwork without incantation that confers an enormous edge in battle. The sword is divided among several styles: the Sword God Style with its light-speed 'Light Sword' technique, the Water God Style that turns an enemy's force back upon him, and the North God Style. The highest masters — Sword Kings and Sword Gods — are true monsters whom no mere political power can outmatch.
Over the whole world looms an ancient feud. The Man-God (Hitogami) is an enigmatic being that appears to the chosen in dreams: it gives vague counsel, quietly bending the course of history to its own profit, and exploits the fact that all living things are inclined to trust it. Its sworn enemy is the Dragon God Orsted, a reincarnation from deepest antiquity who bears a curse of revulsion (all living things dread him) and a secret art that lets him begin his life anew. Every Dragon God from the second onward exists for a single purpose — to slay the Man-God; into this millennia-old war Rudeus is drawn.
Seventh-strongest among the legendary 'Seven Great Powers' — though not yet reborn — is the Demon God Laplace, who launched the Second Human-Demon War four hundred years ago; his soul, cleft in two, became the 'Demon God' and the 'God of Arts,' and the 'Laplace factor' he scattered grants rare individuals — Rudeus and Sylphiette among them — a monstrous reserve of mana. His coming resurrection and the final clash of Orsted against the Man-God form the distant horizon toward which the whole saga slowly moves.

Characters 43
Rudeus Greyrat
Rudeus · Рудеус · Руди
The protagonist — reincarnated as the son of the Greyrat household.
Paul Greyrat
Paul · Пол · Paul Notos Greyrat
The eldest son of the high-noble Notos Greyrat house. In his youth, disillusioned with his strict father and the filth of nobility, he ran away from home at the age of twelve and became an adventurer; for this he was struck from the Notos lineage.
Zenith Greyrat
Zenith · Зенит
Born to the noble Millis family Latreia, she left to become an adventurer and trained as a healer. Paul took her in as a youth and brought her into his party; when she became pregnant with Rudeus, the party broke up, and she and Paul settled in Buena Village in the Fittoa region.
Lilia Greyrat
Lilia · Лилия
In her youth, Lilia trained in fencing at the same hall as Paul; it was there that the teenage Paul assaulted her. Later, on learning that Paul was looking for a maid, she took service in his household — partly mindful of that incident.
Aisha Greyrat
Aisha · Аиша
The daughter of Paul and the maid Lilia, born on the same day as her half-sister Norn as the fruit of her father's affair. Lilia, in Rudeus's debt, devoted her upbringing to a single purpose — that Aisha would one day wait upon her brother.
Norn Greyrat
Norn · Норн
The trueborn daughter of Paul and Zenith, born on the same day as Aisha. Her first impression of her brother was a terrible one: as a little girl she saw Rudeus strike their father and came to hate him, convinced he would kill Paul.
Roxy Migurdia
Roxy · Рокси
Born in a village of the Migurd race in the Begoya region of the Demon Continent, the daughter of Rokari and Roin. Alone in her family, she could not use the Migurd's mental speech and so felt out of place from childhood, gaining a reputation as a "good-for-nothing."
Sylphiette
Sylphie · Сильфи · Сильфиетта
The only daughter of a poor hunter from the Asuran backwoods: her father half of the Long-Eared race, her mother with a drop of beast-race blood, a former slave. Because of her green hair — a color that in this world is linked to the Superd race and the Demon King Laplace — the other children cruelly bullied her.
Eris Boreas Greyrat
Eris · Эрис
A daughter of the Boreas Greyrat house, which held the Fittoa region. The seven-year-old Rudeus was invited to be her live-in tutor in magic and etiquette; the wild, unbridled "young lady" gradually grew close to him.
Ruijerd Superdia
Ruijerd · Руйджерд
Ruijerd is a warrior of the Superd race, once a proud people of the Demon Continent. During Laplace's campaign he, like many Superd, was subjugated by deceit: he was given a spear that turns its bearer into a beast, and under its influence he disgraced his family's honor and killed his own kin.
Zanoba Shirone
Zanoba · Заноба
Zanoba is the third prince of the Kingdom of Shirone (Pax's elder brother) and a Divine Child: he is endowed with superhuman strength. This uncontrollable power turned to tragedy — through carelessness he killed his own younger brother Julius.
Julie
Julie · Юли
Julie is a girl of the miner race (dwarves), who lived for several years with her parents on the Central Continent before falling into slavery. Zanoba buys her at the slave market as "hands" for his doll business.
Cliff Grimoire
Cliff · Клифф
Cliff is a relative (grandson) of the Pope of the Church of Millis and a gifted mage with a considerable store of mana. He enters the Ranoa Magic University as a specially admitted student and becomes one of Rudeus's closest friends.
Elinalise Dragonroad
Elinalise · Элиналис
Elinalise is a long-lived elf adventurer, in the past a companion of Paul, Talhand, and others. A curse lies upon her womb: she must regularly be intimate with men, or else the curse activates to her harm. This is precisely why on the road she is forced to seek partners.
Orsted
Orsted · Орстед
Orsted is the Dragon God, heir to the secret art of the First Dragon God, forged to guarantee victory over the Man-God. He bears several curses, including one that makes everyone around him hate and fear him.
Man-God (Hitogami)
Hitogami · Хитогами · Man-God
By Orsted's account, the Man-God once killed the First Dragon God. Since then every Dragon God from the second onward exists for one purpose — to destroy the Man-God; this is the cherished aim of the
Nanahoshi
Nanahoshi · Нанахоси
Nanahoshi is another Japanese girl, transported against her will into this world as a result of the Teleport Incident; at the moment of the catastrophe she, along with others, was struck by a car. Who arranged the transfer, and why, no one knows.
Lucy Greyrat
The eldest child in the family and the most level-headed of the children: long before she came of age, Rudeus already regarded her as a grown person with sound judgment. Unlike the reserved Lara, little Lucy openly told her father that she loved him very much.
Lara Greyrat
Usually silent and sullen, almost angelically quiet in sleep; as an infant she hardly cried at all. Behind her outward dryness hides a deep attachment to her mother. Raised by her father, she learned that one must apologize for a wrongdoing.
Ars Greyrat
As an infant, the noisiest of Rudeus's children: pick him up and he would start screaming at the top of his lungs, befitting the wild temperament of his mother Eris.
Sieghart Saladin Greyrat
Unlike Lara, who almost never cried, and the loud Ars, Sieg grew up as a perfectly ordinary infant: he cried often and slept often. More than once Rudeus noted with relief that there was nothing unusual about him.
Christina Greyrat
Christina is Rudeus's fourth daughter and the second child of his third wife Eris, born after the family's first four children. In the records of the Kingdom of Asura she is listed among Rudeus's six children as his fourth daughter; she has few episodes of her own in the source.
Lily Greyrat
Lily is Rudeus's third daughter and the second child of his second wife Roxy, born after the family's first four children. She should not be confused with Lilia — the maid and Aisha's mother: they are different people. In the records of the Kingdom of Asura, Lily is listed among Rudeus's six children as his third daughter.
Ghislaine Dedoldia
Ghislaine is of the Dedoldia clan, a special people among the beast races of the Great Forest; in her generation she was the clan's “princess” (alongside the “prince,” Gyes). Failing to find her place in her homeland, she set out into the wider world and
