Sylphiette Greyrat

Sylphiette is the daughter of the half-elf Paks and the human Rilia, born in the small village of Buena near the Greyrat estate. Before she met Rudeus she was an outcast among the local children: her elf-green hair and pointed ears were taken by the village kids for "devilishness".

At three, Rudeus defended her from bullies and became her tutor in silent magic; within two years she reached Advanced in all four elements. That friendship was the defining event of her childhood — she learned to tuck her hair under a hood, stopped fearing strangers, and trained fire and wind "like Rudy".

Slight in build, with light green hair and grey-blue eyes, Sylphi has soft elfin features. Her temperament is gentle and caring, prone to think of others first, but capable of steel where the people she has accepted are concerned. The best ranged caster anywhere in Rudeus's circle.

After the Teleportation Incident she landed in the Kingdom of Asura. She saved Princess Ariel Anemoi Asura from an assassination attempt, joined her retinue, and for years passed as a man — "Fitz", the Princess's Personal Guard. When Ariel relocated to Ranoa Magic Academy, Sylphi went with her — and met Rudeus again, who did not recognise her.

Their marriage came at the end of a long, careful negotiation: Rudeus had been left impotent by the night with Eris, and was healed largely thanks to Sylphi; she revealed herself to him and they married in the academy. Sylphi became his first wife and the mother of Lucy and Sieghart; throughout the story she remains the emotional centre of the Greyrat household and the only person who can defuse both Roxy and Eris at the same time.
