Story
Lara is Rudeus's daughter by his second wife Roxy and the second of his children. For a long time she was thought to be developmentally delayed, since she hardly spoke aloud. The secret was revealed in the Migurd village: her grandfather Roin understood his granddaughter with ease, because Lara commanded the mental speech of the Migurd race — a gift that Roxy herself lacks. Through this mental speech, Lara could communicate wordlessly even with her mind-lost grandmother Zenith.
Knowing how hard she herself had had it in the village without this gift, Roxy once proposed leaving Lara to be raised by the Migurd, so that she would not feel out of place among humans. But Lara, speaking aloud for the first time, clung to her mother in tears and declared that she wanted to be together — and Roxy vowed that they would never part.
In the family, Lara was bound in a special way to the huge white dog Leo, who understood her on a par with people. Years later, on the day Rudeus dreamed of his quiet death at seventy-four, it was Lara who removed the bracelet from his arm, fascinated by the "hidden mark" beneath it.
