Zenith Greyrat

Born to the noble Millis family Latreia, she left to become an adventurer and trained as a healer. Paul took her in as a youth and brought her into his party; when she became pregnant with Rudeus, the party broke up, and she and Paul settled in Buena Village in the Fittoa region. Besides keeping house, she regularly helped out at the village clinic.

A young woman of rare beauty with golden hair — the first thing Rudeus saw when he opened his eyes in his new life. At the time of the story she was a little over twenty. After her rescue from the labyrinth she had hardly changed in appearance, but her gaze had become empty.

Before the Teleportation she was lively, energetic, and tender, prone to delight: the moment Rudeus showed the slightest talent she would rejoice and call him a genius. Despite Paul's constant infidelities, she truly loved him and managed to forgive even Aisha's birth, keeping her friendship with Lilia.

She sternly warned Rudeus not to follow in his womanizing father's footsteps and bade him cherish Sylphiette. She had once been quite spirited, and in raising her daughters she would repeat, "You're a girl, so behave better," blushing all the while.

In Buena Village, Zenith raised Rudeus and rejoiced in his gift; it was she who first healed him when he hurt himself, revealing to him the existence of magic. On learning of Lilia's pregnancy she kept her composure, limited herself to a single slap at Paul, and took Lilia into the family. Soon afterward she gave birth to her daughter Norn.

The Teleport Incident scattered the family across the continent. Years later, Zenith was discovered sealed inside a magic crystal deep in the Teleport Labyrinth on Begaritt. When Paul's party struck down the guardian Hydra, the crystallization broke and Zenith was freed, but Paul died in that battle.

The rescued Zenith had lost her mind: her memory, knowledge, and reason were gone. She recognized neither Paul, nor Lilia, nor Rudeus, and could not mourn her husband's death. In this state she returned to Rudeus's family. Later it turned out that she had retained the quiet ability of mental speech and could communicate wordlessly with her granddaughter Lara — the only one in the house who shared that same gift of the Migurd race.

Canon fixes the name as "Zenith"; the source translation text also contains the spelling "Zenis."

According to the Asura Kingdom reference work, Zenith lived from year 390 to 459 of the Dragon Calendar — decades after her rescue, in a mind-lost state.

The Holy Child of the Church of Millis noted that Zenith is able to read her companion's thoughts; in Zenith's own recollections the usually silent Lara chattered cheerfully with her.
