Description

Born in a village of the Migurd race in the Begoya region of the Demon Continent, the daughter of Rokari and Roin. Alone in her family, she could not use the Migurd's mental speech and so felt out of place from childhood, gaining a reputation as a "good-for-nothing"; only after leaving the village and entering a world where people communicate with words did she understand that it was not her fault, and felt relief. She became an adventurer and a mage.

Appearance

A short, "compact" girl-mage who looks about twelve or thirteen, in a brown magic robe, with water-colored hair braided into a plait and sleepy, narrowed eyes. As a Migurd, she is long-lived and barely changes in appearance over the years. Her blue hair, depending on the light, can take on a greenish tint, which in this world arouses wariness.

Personality

Reserved and a touch grumbly, but kind and a surprisingly easily flattered teacher. She teaches superbly — she never clings to a rigid program and tailors her lessons to the pupil. Behind the outward composure lie self-doubt and diligence: she takes pride in achieving through perseverance what did not come to her by nature.

Even after marrying, she still carries herself toward Rudeus as a teacher and gently scolds him on occasion. Considering herself in a position akin to a concubine, she is nonetheless the household's most reliable pillar; it was she who pulled Rudeus out of the abyss of despair after Paul's death.

Story

Answering the Greyrat family's advertisement, Roxy came to Buena Village as a live-in tutor for the three-year-old Rudeus — and became the first to draw him out of his seclusion and teach him what he had been unable to master for almost twenty years. From the very first lesson a friendship sprang up between them. Having left, she rose over the years to the King rank of water and, when Rudeus hit a dead end in his studies, urged him to knock on the door of the Ranoa Magic University.

When Zenith was found on Begaritt, Roxy joined Paul's party and went through the Teleport Labyrinth together with him. After Paul's death and Zenith's mental collapse, it was Roxy who led the broken Rudeus out of despair — and became his second wife.

Roxy gave birth to a daughter, Lara, and later to Lily. She shared a special closeness with Lara: the daughter turned out to be an esper who commanded the Migurd's mental speech, which Roxy herself could not use, and Roxy even thought of sending her to be raised in her home village so that she would not feel out of place — but Lara did not want to part with her mother. In her later years, Roxy formalized Rudeus's silent-casting method into a scholarly work and a system of instruction, and became headmaster of the Magic University.

Powers & Abilities

A powerful water mage: in Rudeus's service she reached the Saint and then the King rank of water, and commands healing magic up to an intermediate level. Thanks to incantation-shortening she cast advanced magic at a high frequency, and kept scrolls as her trump card. As a scholar, she systematized silent casting into a methodology that was adopted across the three great magic nations and the Asura Kingdom.

Trivia

After Roxy left the Greyrat household, she became a live-in tutor to the prince of the Kingdom of Shirone (Pax) — and complained in a letter that he, like Rudeus, peeks into her clothes and steals her underwear.

Rudeus all but worshipped her; when Zanoba showed him a disfigured "Roxy doll," he flew into genuine rage.

In the Asura Kingdom reference work Roxy is listed as "Roxy M. Greyrat," headmaster of the Magic University, and in the field of education her name stands even above that of Rudeus himself.
