Description

Julie is a girl of the miner race (dwarves), who lived for several years with her parents on the Central Continent before falling into slavery. Zanoba buys her at the slave market as "hands" for his doll business, but deliberately does not brand her as a slave — he treats her not as a slave but as an apprentice.

She receives the name "Julie" from Zanoba in honor of his slain younger brother Julius.

Appearance

Julie is a very small girl, whom Zanoba and Rudeus buy at the slave market. At first she is timid and hides behind her elders, but she quickly grows attached to those who treat her kindly.

Personality

Julie is a surprisingly quick-witted and understanding child: she catches her master's intentions from half a word and carries out tasks without fail. At first she refuses to speak (which is why the merchant lied that she did not know the language), but in fact she already understands human speech.

Under the kind treatment of Zanoba and Rudeus she blossoms, becomes imbued with the "beauty of dolls," and grows into a diligent apprentice.

Story

Under Rudeus and Zanoba, Julie masters silent earth magic: in just a month, by the master's "experimental" method, she begins to silently create earth projectiles — a striking result for so small a child. In parallel she learns the human language, which, as it turns out, she already partly knew.

Julie becomes a key link in the master's doll scheme and his junior apprentice; Rudeus compares her shrewdness to Ginger's. She accompanies Zanoba and Rudeus in their affairs right up to the finale, remaining at the workshop.

Powers & Abilities

Julie masters silent earth magic surprisingly quickly — by Rudeus's method in just a month, though at first the spell succeeds for her only a few times out of ten and quickly drains her mana. As a member of the miner race she is deft and suited to fine craftwork, which is what makes her an indispensable apprentice doll-maker.
