Knight Shreid

When Jim couriered the news of the winter beast tide back to Tverdynya, Shreid waved it off as routine sheep-and-deer rustling. Bodfinger had to override him before the front was reinforced — and then dressed him down on the record.

Under this formal knightly name the family punished the man who treated the winter beast tide carelessly. When Jim raced to Rockcastle with the warning (ch 176), this knight waved it off — just herbivore sheep and deer, nothing new. He took seven days to assemble the column, then over the objections of Bodfinger and Beruneck built a suicidal defensive position, and the tide nearly destroyed the twenty-thousand-strong force. At the final assembly he was stripped of the post of Chief Steward of the Fengleyuan development and of his rank as Chief Knight, and demoted to an ordinary family knight.

In the source text 'Knight Shi / Shreid (Shrade)' is the formal knightly name under which Fatty Shi, the family's logistics chief, was demoted at the final assembly in Rockcastle. The deeds ascribed to 'Knight Shreid' (waving off the beast-tide warning, overruled by Bodfinger) coincide exactly with Fatty Shi's actions in ch 176.
