Lorist's senior companion — hardy, undemanding and willing to do the rough work. In the lean days in Morant he did not balk at hauling cargo on the docks to feed himself and Sedekamp.
A House Norton man who came with Sedekamp to search for Little Locke. By the time he meets Lorist in ch 41 he has fallen into poverty and works as a porter on the Morant wharf.
Once in Lorist's inner circle he rides with him on most major operations — from river crossings to siege fighting. In ch 85 he sets out with Jossk and Sedekamp to seize the copper mine.
He is a constant presence at the war councils and in the command tent (ch 140), serves in the lord's personal guard, and often runs errands when Lorist, spent after a hard battle, cannot act himself (ch 157).
