Mô tả
**The boy the prophecy named (ch 172-176).** Luke is the child of slash-and-burn peasants Pierre and Maria, born in a nameless forest village near Mount Raelia in the Lorraine country, and the elder brother of Daisy. In the game «Dungeon Defense», «Luke» is the default name the system assigns the male protagonist: the hero who, ten years on, drives a cold blade into the heart of every Demon Lord on the continent. Acting on that prophecy, Dantalion descends on the village (masked, posing as the 72nd Demon Lord Andromalius) to murder the boy before he can grow. Luke himself is away playing by the stream and never sees the demon; it is his ten-year-old sister Daisy who steps forward and bargains for every life present.
**The wager and the brand (ch 174-177).** Realising that Daisy is herself a hero-candidate — the heroine the game would have produced had the player chosen a girl — Dantalion strikes a bet rather than a slaughter: if he can win Luke's genuine, soul-deep loyalty, no one dies; if he fails, the whole village does. To seal Daisy's silence she is made a slave, a magical brand seared onto her heart. Dantalion then burns the village as theatre, stages a tender rescue of the fleeing boy, and carries Luke off as a saved orphan. Luke too receives the slave brand and is installed in the Demon Lord's castle as Dantalion's butler — never knowing that his sister sold herself to keep him alive, nor that his master is the very enemy he was born to kill.
**The butler who never suspected (ch 177-437).** Where Daisy plays the role of the spiteful ward to save Dantalion's soul, Luke simply loves him. Raised in safety under Dantalion's shadow, he grows into a swordsman of master rank — but his talents end there: in command, politics, even craft he lags far behind his sister, gifted only in combat and in a guileless personal charm. He is the simple, honest counterweight to a household of schemers, and his devotion to «my godfather» Dantalion is wholly sincere.
**Freedom that brought no joy (ch 479-481).** When Daisy is killed on the Munich front, the brand on Luke's heart dissolves and he is, at last, free — yet freedom only makes him weep. Carrying out the last order his sister ever gave him, he steals the captured, drugged, mutilated Barbatos out of the Republic's intelligence bureau, cuts down two sword-masters and their agents on the way out, and crosses the lines back to the Empire. There, before Ivar Lodbrok speaking in Dantalion's name, he gives false testimony branding his own dead sister a traitor — a fabrication recorded by Memoria to win a future war of pretexts — playing the fool because he cannot play the wise man Daisy was. He beats his forehead bloody against the earth and kisses Ivar's boots like a dog, asking only that the lie not stain Daisy's name.
**Spent (ch 482-484).** Having served his purpose, Luke is put to death under purely political objectives, a victim of the very machine of deception he helped feed. The author's own note is blunt: «Luke is actually a victim», and «Luke died under political objectives.»
**Ending no.00 — the hero he might have been (ch 509-510).** In the True Ending — the «what-if» the game offers had Dantalion never intercepted that village — Luke grows into the hero after all. He beheads all seventy-two Demon Lords, cuts down tens of thousands of demonkin, and becomes the knight and consort of Elisabeth von Habsburg, now Empress of a continent she has unified. But one death haunts his sleep: Paimon, queen of the succubi, who courted him, saved his life, let him run her through, and with her dying breath begged a single kiss — stealing his first as «a last curse». Too late, Luke understands he may have loved her; in guilt he forces through the survival of the Batavia Republic, the one land where human and demon still live side by side. Paimon's true aim — to spare the demon race by binding the hero who would outlive all Demon Lords — dies with her, never revealed.
Personality
Luke is the one guileless heart in a household built on deception. Where his sister Daisy schemes, calculates and wears masks, Luke simply trusts and loves — sincerely devoted to «his godfather» Dantalion, the very enemy he was born to destroy. He is brave, wolf-quick in the woods even as a child, and honest to a fault: he openly admits he could never be clever like Daisy, nor even fake cleverness, and so when he must lie before Ivar he can only «act the fool», because foolishness is the one performance left to him. His love is total and self-effacing — freedom, when Daisy's death finally grants it, brings him only tears, and his last acts are pure obedience to a sister who is already dead.
Powers & Role
By the prophecy, «Luke» is the destined hero: a single human who, given ten years, would behead every Demon Lord on the continent — and in Ending no.00 he does exactly that, felling all seventy-two and tens of thousands of demonkin besides. In the main story that potential is captured rather than spent: raised under Dantalion he becomes a swordsman of master rank, blue-eyed and fearless, able to cut down trained sword-masters and slip past whole walls of guards. Yet his gifts are narrow — outstanding only in combat and personal charm, and markedly weaker than Daisy in command, politics and craft. He is muscle and loyalty, not a strategist; his true narrative weight is not the blade but the role he is forced to play — the freed slave whose false confession and public degradation are harvested as propaganda, and whose life is finally cashed in to win a war of pretexts.
