Capture Target

'Capture target' is the standard otome-game term for the romanceable male love interest a heroine 'captures' over the course of her route. In Leon's narration it doubles as a sneer: the five capture targets of the original game are, to him, exhibits A through E in his case against the matriarchal aristocracy.

Marie, whose entire plan is to capture every target at once, uses the term in earnest. The contrast between her sincere otome-game vocabulary and Leon's exasperated re-use of it is one of the series' running comic engines.

Past the academy arc, the term keeps appearing as shorthand for whatever pretty noble the plot dangles in front of Marie next. Leon's verdict remains stable: capture targets are, in his vocabulary, idiots.
