Vince Rapha Redgrave

Vince Rapha Redgrave is the head of House Redgrave, the most powerful of the Four Great Houses and the kingdom's foremost military magnate. He is also the leading active 'sword-saint' candidate of his generation, a man whose personal record in single combat is rumoured to be untouchable inside Holfart.

Father to Angelica, he raised her to be his heir in fact as well as in name: rigorous training in arms, magic, and statecraft. When Crown Prince Julius publicly denounces Angelica at the academy ball, Vince's first reaction is to consider levying the Redgrave army against the crown; he is talked down only because Leon Fou Bartfort has already settled the matter himself in front of witnesses.

From that point on Vince treats Leon as a near-equal, sponsors his political career, and quietly hopes Leon will continue to do his job of being inconveniently useful. Stern, dryly funny, and one of the few high nobles Leon respects without sarcasm.
