Julius Rapha Holfart

Julius Rapha Holfart is the Crown Prince of Holfart and, in the original otome game, the headline route the heroine ends with. Tall, golden-haired, perfectly turned-out, betrothed since childhood to Angelica Rapha Redgrave — on paper he is everything a kingdom would want from a future king.

On the page he is a sheltered young man who has spent his life being told he is wonderful by his clique, his mother, and his tutors. He believes his own press, mistakes Marie Fou Lafan's calculated flattery for true love, and lets her talk him into the engagement-breaking scene that defines the otome game's climax. Leon Fou Bartfort then publicly demolishes him and his four friends in single-armor combat in front of the entire court.

Stripped of his Crown Prince title, exiled to a labour assignment, and gradually abandoned by Marie's affections, Julius spends the back half of the series slowly growing up the hard way. He never gets the throne, never gets the heroine, and never quite stops resenting Leon — but by the end he is at least someone who can keep a promise.
