Philip Boreas Greyrat

Philip is Sauros's son, Eris's father, and the de facto manager of Fittoa's affairs. Cunning and ambitious, he liked to flash a «wicked» grin and was not above, for instance, proposing to «jointly seize» the headship of House Boreas. It was he who insisted Rudeus teach Eris not only magic but letters and arithmetic too, holding this even more important for her — while offloading a fair share of responsibility onto the tutor.

He could spot another's talent: he eyed Rudeus's interest in the library and learning with evident expectation.

During the Teleport Incident, Philip was teleported into a conflict zone and died there together with his wife Hilda; their bodies were found by Ghislaine. Thus Eris's family was wiped out: Philip and Hilda fell in a war zone, and Sauros was executed for his “responsibility” for the catastrophe.

From the account of the butler Alphonse it is clear that Philip had earlier defeated his rival within the house in the struggle for power, but the political instability following the catastrophe decided the fate of the entire branch.

It was Philip's insistence («getting a child to study is also part of the tutor's job») that forced Rudeus to chase the unruly Eris around the manor and enlist Ghislaine to persuade the girl to attend lessons.
