John Farlier

John Farlier is a viscount, a minor noble and the father of the Leylin Farlier into whose body the protagonist was reincarnated. Thanks to his efforts, the young man in whom magical talent was discovered managed to enter the Sorcerers' Academy and become a Magus Apprentice, later departing by carriage under the family's protection. Within his home lands, John holds a prominent position: his title of viscount places him among the nobility, though before the legion commander — whose rank is equivalent to that of a count — even he is obliged to bow first. Despite the limited resources typical of a provincial noble, John gathers information for his son about what awaits him at the Academy; among other things, he learns that direct killings between apprentices are forbidden, but that the rivalry between peers of equal rank remains utterly merciless. These warnings and his fatherly care become for Leylin one of the first spurs driving him to seek ways to protect himself in the new and dangerous world of sorcerers.
