Chapter 3: Knight

After apologizing, the young girl darted away like a startled fawn, leaving only a faint scent of her perfume lingering in the air.

Watching the flash of her red dress disappear from view, Leilin felt rather confused. "I was the one flirting with you, yet you're the one apologizing? Is something wrong with her head?"

He then touched the vial in his hand. "Did I misjudge before? Perhaps Besta is actually a kind-hearted girl after all!"

Leilin examined the small glass bottle with renewed curiosity. "They're already able to make glass here. It's still pretty crude, but it's not bad!"

He opened the cap, and a medicinal fragrance wafted out.

Out of habit from his previous life, Leilin spoke. "Chip! Scan the potion! Analyze its components!"

"Beep! Task initiated! Scanning!"

"Unknown compounds detected. Initiating simulation experiment!"

"Experiment complete! Effect of unknown potion: Strong numbing and itching sensation! Duration: Seven days!"

"Huh?" Staring at the results, Leilin was speechless for a long moment. "I take back what I said. This girl really does have a dark heart!"

But then, it also gave him the feeling of an adult watching a mischievous child pull a prank.

"After all, she's just a child! She can't bring herself to use truly vicious methods! If a few more years passed, this vial would probably contain a deadly poison!"

Leilin looked at the glass bottle in his hand, thought for a moment, and tucked it into his pocket. "I'll keep it. It might come in handy later!"

After Besta left, no one else came to disturb him.

Leilin lay down again, appearing to sleep, but his mind was racing.

"Going to the Wizard Academy now shouldn't risk my identity being exposed. Those in white robes are probably the Wizards. I've walked past them several times without drawing any attention, so it seems they can't detect anything unusual about me... My chances of making it to the Academy have increased!"

"But rumors say the Wizards there are the embodiment of mystery and cruelty. According to what Viscount John found out, while killing fellow students is forbidden inside the Academy, competition among peers is still very fierce. I need to find some means of self-defense!"

Thinking of this, he fished out the ring hanging from his necklace and held it in his hand.

The ring was dark and unassuming, with only a small 'y' emblem on the inner band, surrounded by intricate patterns.

"With medieval standards, carving such complex patterns onto a ring is practically unbelievable! But when anything is associated with Wizards, no matter how strange, it's not surprising!"

Leilin murmured, then gave another command. "Chip! Scan the ring on my hand!"

"Beep! Task initiated! Scanning!"

"Unknown metal compound detected. Comparing with database... Insufficient data for analysis!"

"As expected! The Chip's current level isn't sufficient to analyze items left by Wizards!" Leilin sighed, but still put the ring away safely.

"How can I increase my strength? This body is far too weak! It can't even compare to someone my age, which won't do!"

"In my previous life, I could have undergone genetic modification, but that's obviously not an option here. Let me check Leilin's memories; maybe there's some method..."

Leilin thought to himself, found the most comfortable position, and spoke in his mind. "Chip! Organize and back up Leilin's memories!"

"Beep! Task initiated! Organizing!"

In the world of Leilin's previous life, the scientific community had always believed that most of the human brain remained undeveloped, and within it lay all memories from birth to the present!

Some memories, even if the person themselves couldn't recall them, were still stored in the brain!

Now, as Leilin issued the command, with the Chip's assistance, every memory from his life—from his birth to being selected as a Wizard Apprentice and setting out on his journey—was vividly displayed before him.

Even what food he had eaten at every meal, and how it tasted, was completely preserved and shown in his mind.

These memories were too numerous and contained much useless information. Previously, Leilin had only extracted what was urgently needed and set the rest aside.

Now, with the Chip's help, they were all being sorted out one by one!

"Data organization complete!" The Chip's prompt sounded.

"Create a new file, name it 'Leilin Farell', and save!" Leilin issued the new command.

"Beep! File 'Leilin Farell' created!"

"Initiate task: Search for methods to increase the subject's strength as quickly as possible!"

"Beep! Task initiated, searching!"

Countless data streams flickered before Leilin's eyes, forming a beautiful curtain of light.

"Search complete! 453 methods found!"

"So many?" Leilin pondered. "Discard any with less than 50% feasibility. Add the condition: Must be executable immediately! Filter again!"

"Beep! Filtering complete. Remaining methods: 2!"
