Arcanist

The Arcanists were an ancient class of spellcasters whose mastery of magic far surpassed anything the mages of the modern era could achieve. They were the intellectual and magical elite of a now-fallen empire: practitioners who approached arcane knowledge not as a gift borrowed from divine power, but as a science to be understood, systematized, and pushed to its absolute limits. Their civilization crumbled long ago, overthrown by the very gods and churches whom its independence threatened, and little of their art has survived today other than in the form of scattered ruins, forbidden texts, and fragmentary family legacies.
