Nie Li

Nie Li (聂离) is the protagonist of Tales of Demons and Gods. Once a powerful cultivator who lived through the fall of Glory City and eventually died fighting the Sage Emperor, he is sent back in time into his thirteen-year-old body, carrying the memories and knowledge of a past life that spanned hundreds of years of training.

In his reborn life he is an average-height, handsome boy with orange hair (blue eyes in the manhua, black in the novel). Though he appears to be an ordinary student in the lowest class of the Holy Orchid Institute, he is clever, patient, shrewd and wise far beyond his years, quietly wielding immense expertise in cultivation, alchemy and inscription patterns.

Much of that knowledge comes from the Temporal Demon Spirit Book: in his previous life he spent centuries training inside its "stationary space-time realm," reading millions of books and transcending Legend rank. A mysterious vine hidden in his soul realm, likely a remnant of that book, lets him nurture demon spirits and absorb boundless soul force.

Armed with foreknowledge, Nie Li sets out to grow strong and gather trusted friends and family to change the future and avert Glory City's destruction. Along the way he founds his own organizations and courts powerful allies while opposing the Sacred Family, the Dark Guild's Demon Lord, and the Demon God Sect.
