Raphtalia

Raphtalia is the main heroine of the series and Naofumi's first and most steadfast companion. A demi-human of raccoon and tanuki ancestry, she has auburn hair, reddish eyes, and fluffy ears and tail.

As a child her seaside village was destroyed by the first Wave of Calamity, and after witnessing her parents killed she was captured and sold into slavery. Naofumi purchases the sickly, traumatized girl, but instead of abusing her he heals her illness, feeds her, and teaches her to fight.

Because demi-humans age with their combat level, Raphtalia rapidly matures from a frightened child into a capable young woman. Overcoming her trauma, she swears to be Naofumi's sword and to spare others the tragedy she endured, remaining fiercely loyal to him.

Later she travels to Glass' World, is chosen by the Vassal Katana to become the Katana Hero, and eventually rises to become the Heavenly Emperor of the isolationist land of Q'ten Lo.
