Description
Lyle Walt is the protagonist of Sevens and the eldest child of the noble House Walt, a provincial count's family that once served as royal advisors. Groomed from birth to become the Ninth Generation head of the house, he is suddenly cast aside once his younger sister Celes begins to eclipse everyone around her. Defeated by Celes in a formal duel and disowned by his own parents, he leaves home carrying almost nothing but the ancestral Blue Jewel, an ornament pressed into his hands by an old gardener named Zell who had served his grandfather.
The Blue Jewel is the heart of the story and the source of the title. When Lyle's own Support-type Skill awakens, it fills the last slot in the stone and turns it into a true Jewel, letting him converse with the recorded personalities and Skills of seven past heads of House Walt: Basil (1st), Crassel (2nd), Sleigh (3rd), Max (4th), Fredricks (5th), Fiennes (6th), and his grandfather Brod (7th). These 'ancestors' are not surviving souls but memories and abilities preserved in the stone, appearing as they were at their prime. They constantly advise, bicker with, and needle him, lending their combat and command experience, though drawing on them drains his magic and leaves him perpetually tired.
At the outset Lyle is naive, pampered, and utterly ignorant of the world beyond the estate, a sheltered ex-noble who can barely survive a night in the wild. Under the relentless coaching of his ancestors and the loyalty of Novem, the former fiancee who follows him into exile, he slowly grows into a capable adventurer and party leader. He is fundamentally kind and self-doubting, quick to insist he has no worth after his defeat, yet he refuses to simply run away, choosing to face challenges even when he expects to lose.
His journey builds toward a reckoning with Celes, who is revealed to be far more than a merely gifted sibling. In the climactic arc Lyle and the Seven of the Jewel confront her directly, and House Walt's combined strength prevails; by the end he has reclaimed the azure stone at his chest and forged a new place for himself and the companions gathered around him.
