Fiennes Walt

Fiennes Walt is the Sixth Generation head of House Walt and one of the Seven Ancestors whose skills and consciousnesses are preserved inside the blue jewel (orb) that the protagonist Lyle inherits. He first manifests to Lyle in a shared dream of the round-table chamber, appearing as a wild, red-haired man with unkempt hair combed back. In life he was the ancestor who raised House Walt from a barony to an earldom, and he was infamous for not shying away from dirty methods to do so — a man dogged by countless dark rumors, whose reputation Lyle's father complained still brought the family trouble.

Within the family circle of ancestors he stands out for his relationship with his own father, the Fifth Generation Fredricks: whereas the First and Second Generations bicker constantly, Fiennes is quiet and deferential before Fredricks, making theirs a rare example of a good father-son bond in House Walt. Toward Lyle he is gruff and blunt but genuinely caring — he tells Lyle to wallow in his misery and learn that such grief is foolish, urges him to take on jobs and adventuring as valuable experience, and repeatedly reads the situation to give sharp, practical counsel. As an adventurer he is even more seasoned than the veteran Zelphy, and by his own admission he ran away from home in his youth before returning as a formidable, capable leader with real drive and the strength to lead others.

His Skill is 'Search' (Поиск), a support-type ability built upon his father's Fifth Generation skill; it identifies who nearby is an ally and who is an enemy and pinpoints traps. Used together with the Fifth Generation's skill it projects a map of the surrounding terrain with the positions of friends and foes marked — a terrifying capability in war. He is also credited with the associated 'Stats/Attributes' (Характеристики) skill, and, crucially, it was Fiennes who devised the very method of combining the different generations' skills, understanding better than anyone how powerful that fusion could be for both control and warfare. He also trained the Third Generation's techniques specifically as a countermeasure to dangerous Magic-Eye users like Shannon.

In the ancestors' own self-mocking summary of the family, Fiennes is 'the delinquent who ran away from home,' but even his own son the Seventh Generation Brod insists that he gained priceless experience during those years and returned to become a worthy head of the house — a man of decisive action, strong enough to carry everyone with him.
