Description

Clara Bulmer is a fifteen-year-old librarian and registered adventurer living in the academic city of Aramsas, where Lyle first meets her among the stacks of the city's famed Library. Recognizable by her shoulder-length dark-blue hair (which she cuts herself, leaving it sticking out in all directions), red eyes, and glasses, she is a skipped-grade academy graduate who turned down a permanent library post so she could keep more time free for reading. She takes freelance library commissions instead, and it is over shared books and quiet conversation that she and Lyle become friends. Bookish and unflappable, she speaks in a flat, deadpan manner and is not above bluntly needling Lyle — she once dryly calls him a 'womanizer' — but she is fundamentally kind, level-headed, and dependable.

Her signature ability is the support-type skill 'Reading', which lets her read, translate, and copy books, including texts in foreign tongues and ancient script; its ultimate form, 'Walking Library', turns Clara herself into a living repository of knowledge. This makes her invaluable for research, intelligence, and appraisal work, and the book-loving Third Generation ancestor within Lyle's Jewel regards her as his ideal woman. In combat she is weak at close range and fights as a supporter: casting the occasional spell and, crucially, providing light in the darkness of the dungeons.

Introduced during the commission from the golem-crafting professor Damian, Clara quickly proves her worth and becomes a permanent, core member of Lyle's party. She later studies Damian's puppeteer magic and takes over operation of the party's cargo-golem 'Porter', steering the armored transport with a staff to haul supplies, shield the group, and serve as a mobile battle platform. As the group grows into a large household, Clara becomes one of Lyle's wives, navigating the crowded 'faction' politics among the women — aligning with Ludmila's camp — while remaining a calm, ever-reading presence at his side through to the story's end.
