Description
The Republic of Alzer is a wealthy, ostensibly republican polity built around a Sacred Tree whose magical output sustains its sky-continent and its ruling families. In practice power is concentrated in a small number of bloodlines whose internal feuds are as vicious as any kingdom's.
Its arc begins as a diplomatic exchange involving Leon, Olivia and Marie and becomes the series' clearest study of corruption by antique AI: the noble line bonded to Ideal has been quietly engineering a coup that will collapse the Republic's institutions in their favour.
Leon's intervention turns Alzer into a politically unstable client of Holfart and brings Noelle Zerberg into his household. The Sacred Tree survives, the worst of the corrupt nobility does not.
