Kyle

Kyle is a half-elf boy bonded as a contracted servant to Marie Fou Lafan early in the story. Half-elves in Holfart have miserable legal protection and are routinely exploited; Kyle's deal with Marie is supposed to be a step up and is, in practice, only a marginal one.

He is sarcastic, sceptical of nobles in general, and immediately recognises Leon as someone considerably less stupid than the company Marie keeps. His scenes are some of the series' best comic accidents: a tired pre-teen domestic servant looking sideways at the cohabiting harem of disgraced ex-princes.

Over the course of the series Kyle grows into a competent young attendant and one of the few people who can speak frankly to both Marie and Leon without getting in trouble.
