Description
The Fanoss Principality is a smaller sky-continent polity on Holfart's southern border. Independent, jealously proud, and chronically outmatched in airships, Armors and magic-using academies, it has spent generations measuring itself against the kingdom and looking for an opening.
Its push for that opening is the antagonist plot of the early arcs. Princess Hertrude Sera Fanoss leads a campaign her advisers swear is winnable; in practice the campaign collapses the moment Leon Fou Bartfort and Luxion's Old Humanity hardware reach the front, and Fanoss is folded into Holfart's sphere of influence as a tributary partner.
Post-defeat, Fanoss becomes one of the series' running case studies of post-war politics: a once-proud small nation now trying to rebuild under a peace its princess negotiated personally with the man who beat her.
