Randolph Marlian

Despite the nickname and grim look, Randolph is no mad killer but a good-natured, unflappable man fond of cooking. At the audience he was indifferent, yawning from lack of sleep and reluctant to introduce himself. He describes his «main work» — killing — plainly and matter-of-factly: he kills anyone.

Randolph looks about forty-five; sturdily built, but lightly and minimally armored. In himself he is unremarkable and radiates no threat — meeting him on the street, Rudeus would pass by without wariness. But his face is gaunt, cheekbones jutting, grim; the right eye is covered by a patch, the left lifeless and sunken, with zombie-like shadows beneath the cheeks. He is called the «man with the skeleton face», nicknamed the «Death God».

Randolph is the strongest knight of the Kingdom of the Dragon King (Wang-Ryu), serving under the commander Shagal Galgantis. When the king of Wang-Ryu staged a coup in Shirone, Randolph almost single-handedly destroyed Shirone's personal guard and its entire royal family, handing the blood-soaked throne to Pax. He remained at Pax's side as a bodyguard.

Rudeus feared that Randolph was a servant of the Hitogami, and in the throne room he braced for a fight, but no battle followed. Afterward Randolph turns out to be a valuable ally: it is through him that Rudeus establishes a connection with the Dragon King Kingdom for the future war with Laplace. In the historical records he is listed as “Death King Randolph of the Kingdom of the Dragon Kings,” who maintained a friendship with Rudeus in the coalition against Laplace. Among the Seven Great Powers he holds fifth place.
