Isolte Cruel

Isolte is a student of the Water God Reida and a master of the Water God Style, whose graceful counterstrikes are renowned. She met Eris in the Holy Land of Swords, where they became friends and rivals; it was on Isolte that Eris honed her counters to counterattacks. In the Kingdom of Asura, Isolte serves as a knight and is preparing to receive the title of Water King.

Isolte is a beauty of forbidding aspect, yet surprisingly talkative and perceptive. A follower of the Milis Church, she is at first sharp toward those she thinks mistreat their loved ones: mistaking Rudeus for the womanizer Luke, she pointedly chided him over his treatment of his wife. Learning that Rudeus truly cares for Eris, she was genuinely glad for her friend.

As befits a warrior, she met her master's death with an adventurer's composure; what stung most was not being told in advance. Coming to Eris a few days after her teacher's death was her way of drawing a line under it.

Orsted warned that Isolte might end up on the enemy's side: her teacher, the Water God Reida, hired by Darius's faction, had a high chance of becoming Ariel's enemy. In the capital Ars, Isolte — a young knight of Asura — meets Eris, and at first her allegiance is unclear.

However, after Reida (who acted as an open assassin aiming for Ariel's head) is killed on “the spot,” and Ariel extends her patronage to the Water God Style and does not close the dojo, Isolte decides not to become an enemy: she has her teacher's testament, and the interests of the style and of Ariel coincide. Her rivalry with Eris turns peaceful — they stroll through the capital together.

In time Isolte rises to the rank of Water Emperor and is among the few supporters of the Water God Style who are loyal to Orsted. In the final battle against the Battle God Badigadi she fights on the front line on Rudeus's side: her graceful counterstrikes hold the line, buying time until Rudeus's return.
