The Infinite Magician is set in the Kingdom of Aiwood, a middling western realm where magic decides a person's fate. Every newborn has their innate mana measured in a rite; those with none are branded talentless and pushed down to commoner status, however noble their blood.
Power rests with the noble houses (dukes, marquises, margraves, counts), many bearing 'flower' surnames — Rosemary, Cattleya, Crocus, Lavender. The strongest mages serve the crown as court magicians with the rank of honorary viscount. Mages and knights are trained at the capital's Royal Academy, split into Magic and Knight departments. Along the borders lie demon realms swarming with monsters led by apex 'lords'; beyond them stands Aiwood's rival, the Geyser Empire.
Into this world is born Rest, son of a court magician and a commoner, judged to have 'no mana.' In truth he is a reincarnator from another world, and his mana is truly infinite. With a cold resolve to prove that birth does not decide one's place, he hides his gift and climbs step by step toward the post of court magician — saving along the way the daughters of great houses who are first to uncover his secret.
