Chaib

Chaib is the proprietor of the Black & Dark Store (also called the Dark & Black Store), a cavernous, maze-like warehouse where, as she puts it, almost anything can be had for the right price. Physically she is small and slight, with a wolf-cut of gray hair, reptilian slit-pupil eyes, dark circles under her eyes, and a habitually worn yellow hooded robe or coat. She has a cheerful, teasing, laid-back manner and speaks in a lazy drawl, calling the protagonist 'Wof-cchi.' Despite her unassuming, sickly-thin appearance, she is registered as a First-class explorer and carries the epithet 'The Beast of Good Sense' — a title the story repeatedly (and ironically) undercuts.

She first appears when the witch (Wof's master) brings Wof to her shop to acquire portable transfer arrays and the technical skill to link them, so Wof can smuggle himself into a sealed dungeon. Impressed by Wof's cleverness in solving the transfer-array problem, she becomes a recurring ally, later handling the installation work for Wof's own dungeon (setting up the save-crystal system) and, above all, serving as the equivalent-exchange partner that stocks his dungeon's treasure chests through her endless inventory. She takes up residence as a guest in the witch's house, in a room next to Mineha's, and becomes entangled in a comically charged romantic dynamic with Wof, engineered largely through repeated bathhouse 'encounters' and gifts such as a bracelet he presents her in gratitude.

Chaib's true power comes from her Relic, Furazzerei (the Demon Beast Furazzerei), which transforms her into an armored black beast with enormous horns. It has multiple stages: an early beast-person form giving her black ears and a tail, and a full third form as a towering black behemoth. In this state she is one of the strongest combatants in the story — the text suggests she may be stronger than Wof and even Alverd. She single-handedly demolishes every dungeon keeper up to floor 100 with her bare hands (never even using the emerald-set curved sword her tail wields), and her Furazzerei third form takes the erasure Relic Vanish head-on without a scratch, making her effectively immune to it. When her beast instincts fully take over she loses her 'good sense' and becomes a genuinely dangerous animal; Wof learns he can only pacify her by grooming her fur and tail with his own Relics.

As a supplier and fixer, Chaib also connects Wof's world to larger plot threads: she sources rare orepart-like components — including a cube that reveals hidden Bavanish Blasters and further empty sockets aboard the dimensional-transfer ship Etranze — and volunteers to hunt down the remaining parts, meeting the ship's queen and helm Nekia in the process. Sharp-eyed enough to instantly sense a fellow 'beast' or spirit, she is a reliable if mercenary presence who keeps business first while quietly caring about those she works with.
