The Tower appeared mysteriously out of nowhere and can be seen on the horizon from anywhere on Earth. It was created by Ja Soo-jung, its Tower Master, who built it to gather all the sadness in the world into one place so that she could bear that burden herself. Anyone who steps inside can never leave, abandoning their wealth, relationships, nationality, and identity.
The Tower is built of many floors, each one an entire world—a real, cloned world filled with its own monsters and its own way of being cleared. The lower floors (1 through 10) form a Tutorial, while higher floors each stage a different "play," often a rescued story or apocalypse. Hunters gain auras and skill cards upon entering, and the Tower issues them system messages, status windows, and rankings.
Its early decades were a lawless chaos of slavery, terror, and genocide, until the leaders of the great guilds—among them the Black Witch, the Countess, the Heresy Inquisitor, and the Sword Saint—struck an eternal non-aggression pact sealed over five nights of mass killing. The Tower has 100 floors, its structure upheld by hidden skills, with the 99th and 100th floors holding its final secrets.
