Muwol Satae is the current leader of the Emei Sect, the foremost righteous sect under heaven, renowned for her serene majesty. It was she who cut down the bandits that had slaughtered little Cheongwol's parents and took in the weeping orphan, becoming for her a benefactress in place of father and mother. Beautiful even amid horror, she bound herself to Cheongwol by a thread that runs through the whole story.
Outwardly stern and reserved, Muwol Satae is in truth endlessly tender toward Cheongwol: beneath her firm tone she once held the weeping girl in her arms for a long while. As the years pass and she frets over her disciple she grows stricter, yet her worry is that of a loving mother, not a teacher. Like the Poison King, she thinks in terms of the fates of those she loves.
As sect leader, Muwol Satae personally taught only Cheongwol and her master Soun the secret sword art passed down solely to future sect leaders. She receives the Tang Clan on Mount Emei and later speaks with the Poison King about the fallen Yeongcheon and the fates of their charges, Cheongwol and Tang Soran.
