The Demonic Cult is the great looming threat of the murim world. When it raises its head, the Central Plains will fall into chaos and minor figures will be swept away "like fallen leaves." At its summit stand the Seven Heavens, seven absolute overlords. In the plot the hero knows in advance, the righteous Cheongwol yields to her inner demon, betrays the Emei Sect, and crosses to the cult, becoming one of the Seven Heavens.
The cult's uprising is the very ending for which the hero spins his schemes: he dreams both of preserving the finale he loves and of slipping out of the cult's grasp himself. When the cult finally rises, the whole free world of murim trembles beneath its heel; the Murim Alliance tries to rein in the chaos, calm the people, and smoke out the remaining cultists. The Beggars' Sect is not marked as the cult's main target, which gives the hero a fragile hope.
