Jeanne is the eldest daughter of a declined viscount's house (the Armeria line). After the family's ruin she ended up enslaved. Her appraisal reads "Cursed Child (Saint), former viscount's daughter, slave": the "cursed" brand conceals her true nature as a Saint, and despite low physical strength she holds an enormous magic reserve (around 7,000 MP).

Tenma rescues Jeanne and her maid Aura when the two, exhausted, fall into the hands of slavers. Even so, Jeanne at first refuses to have her slave status lifted. She becomes part of Tenma's circle and stays at his side.
