Tenma tamed Slarin soon after discovering he had the Taming skill. Appraisal showed the slime was clearly stronger than an ordinary one (common slimes rank about F- to F+). Merlin explained it was a rare mutant — a monster born at a higher rank — and that such individuals are intelligent and can grow quite powerful.

Given the name Slarin, the slime learns magic, including Fire Magic, which it can use to heat its own body (it warmed the eggs of future familiars this way). A flexible, quick-witted helper, it becomes the first of Tenma's familiars.
