Anna

Anna is a striking waitress at a town tavern in occupied Nanbonan: vivid orange hair, gray eyes, and the mature femininity of about twenty-six. Her husband died in an epidemic, and she remained an unmarried widow. She has worked at the tavern for some twenty years and is acquainted with many townsfolk.

Under cover of a warrant with the seal of the Nanbonan Council, given to him by his grandfather and granting him unlimited immunity in the city, Wilk takes Anna by force right in the tavern. Later he uses her fame in the city: on the square before the Council building, where the surrender is proclaimed, Wilk brings out Anna as a resident who supposedly talked him out of destroying Nanbonan — a face familiar to the townsfolk helps calm the crowd.
