Nanbonan

Nanbonan is a merchant city on a great river, once an ordinary town deep within the Jinkaen Empire. The war of succession after the second emperor's death redrew the map, and Nanbonan suddenly became a border city between Jinkaen and the Kingdom of Levios. The imperial governor of the time judged the land indefensible, withdrew his troops, and entrenched himself far from the border, while the townsfolk were left to themselves and came to be ruled by a merchant Council.

House Quordenze seizes Nanbonan during its campaign against the empire. The city tries to negotiate even under occupation — typical of a merchants' city. Viscount Galliana describes the Council's failure as "half-measures": the citizens were ready to defend a free Nanbonan, while the merchants held that surrender should have come sooner, before the encirclement. After the fall the city passes under the new administration of House Quordenze.
