Will

Will is a human man born into the Argus family of sorcerers, known among the ancient magical lineages of the central lands. His mother is Jenny Argus (family name: Jinny), a sorceress who lived a long life and died of old age surrounded by her allies Aaron, Vinasa, and Memphis. Through his mother, Will inherited a direct blood tie to the family patriarch, Siegfried Argus, the founder of the lineage; this exalted origin grants the young magus high birth, though it affords him no special protection, for it is known that the head of the family pays little heed to his descendants. By the time he appears in the narrative, Will has already reached the first rank of magus and is counted among the living, continuing the sorcerer's path charted by generations of the Argus. In the text of the novel he remains a secondary figure: his name arises in conversations about his mother's family affairs, connections, and legacy, and he himself serves as the link through which Jenny Argus's line continues into the new generation of magi. Thus Will matters above all as the son of one of the most distinguished sorceresses of the previous generation and as heir to the Argus lineage, whose fate is intimately entwined with the intrigues surrounding this family.
