Chapter 757: Three Strikes

January 17, 2020 · 5 min read · 983 words

The Purgatory World was a peculiar realm—vast and immense, second only to a scant few of the most powerful worlds such as those of the Wizards, the Gods, and the Dream Realm. Its world primal force was incomparably abundant.

Yet strangely, the world will of the Purgatory World had always been like chaos itself, as though dormant or witless, allowing numerous powerful extraplanar entities to invade freely. It had thus become a paradise for countless outsiders.

However, the Purgatory World of ancient times had not been like this. It too had once possessed a powerful will of its own!

Every world possessed its own will, following the instinct to protect its own interests. Upon learning this from the Ancient Tree of Wisdom, Leilin immediately saw hope of defeating the Serpent Mother and obtaining the Blood of Origin.

Since the current Purgatory World will had fallen into dormancy or chaos, Leilin would simply awaken it! With the terrifying effect of the Ancient Tree of Wisdom's branch clone in enlightening wisdom, achieving this would be remarkably simple.

And once the world will was awakened, how it would deal with the Serpent Mother and her kind went without saying.

To put it vividly: the will of the Purgatory World was like a hulking guard watching over a house. While he slept, a band of robbers had broken in and were running amok. What would he do once he woke up?

Moreover, the Purgatory World was an extremely formidable world. Unlike those small worlds that might be crushed by an Eighth-grade existence, it was at least on par with the Ice World—more than capable of suppressing entities like the Mother of Ten Thousand Serpents and driving their invasion to utter failure.

Now, with the Purgatory World awakened and aware of these thieves brazenly stealing its primal force upon its own territory, it had naturally fallen into a towering rage.

Leilin had proactively offered a sacrifice to awaken it, earning merit in the process. His request to expel these thieves was therefore perfectly reasonable grounds for the world will's favor.

With the world will's empowerment, Leilin could now truly be called the Son of the World! Everything he did was execution on behalf of the Heavens!!!

"It's the Purgatory Will! It's awakened!"

"Wasn't it always lost in chaos? How did it suddenly become lucid?"

"I sense the flavor of wisdom—it's the Ancient Tree of Wisdom's doing!"

As those cyan eyes opened, a terrifying oppressive force descended upon the entire world. Those sentient beings of the Rules sensed it even more keenly—this was suppression from the world itself. No matter where one hid within the Purgatory World, there was no escaping it. It represented the terrifying authority of the Purgatory Will!

And the internal suppression of such a powerful world could even force the grade of foreign entities like the Mother of Ten Thousand Serpents and the Filth Bird to drop—truly terrifying beyond measure!

The other wills retreated far away at once, filled with wariness. Even for Eighth-grade existences, engaging in direct conflict with a world will was an extremely unwise proposition.

This was especially true here, in the Purgatory World—essentially the will's home ground. Once targeted by it, one's fate would be utterly miserable.

Whoosh! The numerous powerful wills, as well as the watchful gaze from the deep sea, vanished without a trace, shrinking back into themselves.

"Chirp chirp!" The Filth Bird, appearing to fly out from the void, hastily executed a graceful turn upon seeing this, as though attempting to flee.

"BEGONE!!!"

Leilin raised his hand as if swatting a fly, his every movement imbued with the force of the entire world. The Filth Bird shrieked in misery and was sent tumbling far away, a shower of grey feathers drifting down in its wake.

"Even with borrowed power alone—this is still terrifying!"

Leilin felt every cell in his body flooded with a tremendous force. Moreover, compared to those Supremes whose Priests were at most Sixth-grade, the Purgatory Will had been far more generous—temporarily elevating Leilin to the strength of a Seventh-grade Priest. Though this could not last, and the power would have to be returned afterward, it at least allowed him to temporarily wield the might of a true powerhouse through external aid.

"With the troublesome ones gone—seal!"

Leilin spread his arms wide, and the Purgatory World cast down a multitude of cyan Chains of Chaos, sealing off this entire region. Terrifying lightning clung directly to the chains.

This was a restriction formed by Chains of Chaos and Lightning of Rules, and it made the faces of both Beelzebub—who had just been about to flee—and the Mother of Ten Thousand Serpents turn grim.

With the aid of the Chip and his own Full Moon-level True Spirit, Leilin had a precise estimate of his available power.

"Three times! With the assistance of the world's primal force, I have at most three chances to unleash my peak power!"

Leilin noted silently. After all, an Eighth-grade existence was fully capable of standing against a world will's pressure.

But the world will was ultimately just an intelligence construct—its support could not be infinite. Even if Leilin was willing to serve as its weapon, the world will might not be willing to expend too much of its power.

After all, simultaneously waging war against so many Eighth-grade existences would inevitably result in a pyrrhic victory at best, and could even cause the entire Purgatory World to collapse.

However, with Leilin's current Priest rank, converting all his contribution points would make it quite easy for the Purgatory World to deal with a few of them on his behalf.

"The merit from the Ancient Tree of Wisdom's sacrifice—the contribution that restored its awareness—all of it combined, and it can only grant me a few chances to act?"

Leilin had a very clear sense of this.

"Eighth-grade existences truly are terrifying. But three chances—that's enough!"
