Chapter 590: Genius

January 17, 2020 · 5 min read · 964 words

"The land area of Sky City is extremely small, yet the permanent population is enormous. An inch of land is worth an inch of gold — that's only natural. The villa I lived in before must have been in one of the most prestigious wealthy districts! Apart from Morning Stars, no one else can lay claim to it here..."

Leylin studied the architectural structures around him and came to a sudden realization.

The streets were bustling with people. Representatives of nearly every race on the Central Continent could be seen, and the Wizards not only wore exquisite formal attire but also conducted themselves with exceptional warmth and courtesy, exuding the air of scholars.

"After being shaped by civilization, the entire demeanor of the city's residents becomes something else entirely..."

Leylin sighed. He supposed that only under the protection of the Sky Throne could a place like Sky City produce such a moving sight.

Since Leylin had restrained his aura, he now appeared to be nothing more than an utterly unremarkable low-level Wizard, out shopping with his maidservant. He attracted no scrutiny whatsoever.

Leylin walked and observed as he went. He spotted quite a few of the Feathered Clan, like Yuluo — most of them dressed in servant's attire, trailing behind some Wizard or other.

He glanced at Yuluo. The woman looked somewhat ill at ease.

Leylin immediately understood. The talents of the Feathered Clan were nothing special in Sky City. To truly put down roots here, one had to attach oneself to a Wizard or similar figure. Being a servant was actually one of the better outcomes.

Of course, someone like Yuluo — an outstanding member of the Feathered Clan who had secured a higher status — was still, no matter how much vanity played into it, merely a maid in the presence of a true master. She looked somewhat flustered and uneasy, and seeing her kind living like this brought a touch of sadness. That was entirely understandable.

Boom!

A sudden explosion rang out from the street ahead, and the throngs of people descended into chaos instantly.

"Hm?" Leylin took a few imperceptible steps back. Yuluo was already scanning their surroundings with a guarded expression.

"The energy intensity isn't aimed at me — looks like it's just a random incident I've stumbled into," Leylin thought calmly. He had only stepped back to avoid trouble. He waved Yuluo, who had grown a little tense, to stand down, and the scene unfolding before him came into full view.

A group of white-robed Wizards — wearing jeweled crowns on their heads and wielding curved blades — had clashed with another group of Wizards.

"From the energy fluctuations, these Wizards are at most level three, but their physical constitutions are terrifyingly high. Quite impressive!"

At a single glance, Leylin had seen through the true strength of every combatant.

The white-robed Wizards clearly possessed extraordinary physiques, moving with the speed of wind. The one leading them was especially formidable — his curved blade erupted with terrifying arcs of blade energy, forcing several dark Wizards opposite him into a steady retreat.

Anything related to body refinement always caught Leylin's interest. He always wanted to get his hands on it and study it closely.

"Is this kind of conflict common here?" Leylin glanced at Feather Fall beside him.

"No! I've been here for decades, and I've only witnessed three conflicts! This makes the fourth!" Feather Fall shook his head. "The Sages' Council will respond quickly!"

"They're already here!" Leylin looked up into the sky, a hint of amusement in his eyes.

Boom! Platinum-gold flames flickered as a massive sphere of light formed. From within it stepped a young Wizard clad in a platinum-gold Wizard's robe. He was extremely youthful — his face even carried a trace of boyish innocence.

But the moment he appeared, terrifying waves of energy swept downward.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The two groups of Wizards who had been locked in combat were immediately blasted backward, dropping to one knee on the ground. The leader's joints cracked loudly, yet he was still suppressed flat against the earth, pinned there like a massive toad.

Morning Star domain! A genuine Morning Star domain radiating from this young boy! He was actually a Morning Star as well! And Sky City's first response to such an incident was to deploy a Morning Star for suppression!

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! At that moment, even more Wizards wearing Sky City uniforms arrived at the scene. Every one of them was a liquefied Wizard or above, their bodies radiating a cold, iron-forged killing intent and wearing expressions of detached indifference.

With a Morning Star pressing down from above and such an elite force of Wizards below, the two groups were immediately detained. Their seas of consciousness were even sealed, and they were led away with heads hung low in dejection.

"My, my! Truly worthy of Sky City! Such deep reserves — they dispatch elite forces like this at the drop of a hat!" Leylin felt quite envious deep down.

But his gaze caused Feather Fall to misunderstand. Seeing this lord watching the direction the Wizards were being escorted away, she assumed he was concerned about what would happen to them afterward.

"They're done for! Daring to cause trouble in Sky City — both sides will face severe punishment! Expulsion is the minimum; they could even be sentenced to forced labor..."

Feather Fall whispered her explanation to Leylin.

"Mm. And who are they?" Leylin had little interest in their fate. What truly caught his attention was the body-refining Wizardry these Wizards had displayed.

Though it had only been a fleeting glimpse, Leylin could determine that their body-refining system was remarkably complete. If it included Morning Star-level content, it should be of considerable use to him as well.
