Seeing
A few seconds later, he realized that might not be a great look and quickly said, "I already sent them off. Those three students gave me a five-star rating right in front of me. They all said they had a great time, and they asked you not'to give that haunted house actor a hard time."
"Great time?" Chen Ge nodded. "Good."
"Brother Chen, what was the deal with those two visitors? Both of them passed out — are they okay?" Gu Feiyu hesitated, then asked, "And what's this about a haunted house actor the students mentioned?"
"Minor issue. You'll get used to this kind of thing working at my haunted house. Oh, and you should also pick up some first-aid knowledge going forward." Chen Ge had Gu Feiyu help him support Wei Wu and Kong Xiangming. "Lock them in the makeup room for now."
"First-aid knowledge? Lock them up in the makeup room?" Cold sweat broke out across Gu Feiyu's forehead. This was starting to feel suspiciously like walking into some kind of back-alley operation.
"They're not real visitors." Chen Ge realized the new guy had jumped to the wrong conclusion and offered a quick explanation. "New Century Paradise and our haunted house joined forces for a major promotional campaign. Some people don't want to see us make a comeback, so they sent these guys to cause trouble."
"Oh, so that's what it is." Little Gu nodded earnestly. "Man, the waters in this city sure run deep."
Little Gu carried Wei Wu on his back while Chen Ge dragged Kong Xiangming. The two of them made it to the last classroom before stopping again.
"There are still two more visitors somewhere in the haunted house. They should be in the right-side scenario. Stay here — I'll be right back."
Chen Ge dropped Kong Xiangming and headed toward the girls' dormitory. Gu Feiyu stood alone outside the classroom, suddenly getting the nagging feeling that someone inside was watching him.
"Brother Chen, I'm coming with you!"
As they entered the right-side corridor, raised voices carried to them from far away. The visitor named Nana had a fiery temper — she was dead set on breaking up with the male visitor, and her anger had completely overwhelmed her. She no longer even noticed how eerie the surroundings were.
"What are these two doing? Picking a fight inside a haunted house?"
The couple stood in the middle of the corridor. There weren't any scare points nearby, and they were at each other's throats with no sign of stopping.
"Bro, slow down." Gu Feiyu dragged and tugged the two Odd Talk Association members along behind them.
"Why'd you come along?"
"I was worried about you. Thought I'd come help." Gu Feiyu peered ahead, then deflected the topic. "These two are really going at it. Should we go try to calm them down?"
"A good judge can't settle family quarrels — what's there to mediate?" Chen Ge swung the Skull Crusher Hammer and decided, honestly, the Odd Talk Association members were better company. At least when he was in a bad mood, he could just whack them with a hammer.
"They're fighting so viciously — what if something goes wrong? I mean, it's happening in our haunted house. If word gets out, it'll look bad." Gu Feiyu stood behind Chen Ge, feeling vaguely guilty about just spectating a couple's blow-up inside their own haunted house.
Our haunted house has had no shortage of incidents already, Chen Ge thought. He very much wanted to say that out loud, but in order not to crush the new hire's morale entirely, he held his tongue. "If they really wanted to break up, they wouldn't have spent half an hour dithering in here."
Chen Ge took out the human-skin mask, put it back on, raised the Skull Crusher Hammer, and walked toward the couple.
Before he even got close, the woman shoved the man away, ducked into the nearby dorm room — the one where the pencil spirit was — and slammed the door shut.
The man pounded on the door from the outside. Crying could be heard from within, but she refused to open up.
"Yan Nana!"
The woman had locked the dormitory door and the windows from inside. The man stood outside the window, shouting in, but she seemed dead set on ending things.
"Chen Zimin, we first met in a haunted house. Let's end it here, today. Two years, six months, and one day — thank you for all the beautiful memories."
"I genuinely don't understand why you want to break up. Was I not good to you?"
"Stop interrogating me. It's all my fault, okay? Are you happy now?"
The argument escalated further. Chen Ge, still some distance away, could not listen to another word. He picked up the pace, the Skull Crusher Hammer dragging behind him with growing speed.
Footsteps echoed. The man outside the door caught sight of Chen Ge. Truthfully, he was a little scared, but he was still boiling with rage, and fury drowned out the fear.
When he realized Chen Ge was actually approaching instead of minding his own business, he even looked ready to redirect some of that anger his way.
