Watching Chen Ge walk away, Captain Li felt a growing unease. He called A Yong in from outside.
"I've got something to take care of tonight. I'm heading out."
"Is it about Chen Ge?"
"Yeah. Ever since his parents disappeared, this kid's managed to stay calm no matter what he runs into. This is the first time I've seen him so shaken." Captain Li tidied the documents on his desk. "While you're at it, tell the night-shift brothers not to let their guard down. Things might get urgent tonight."
"Got it."
Captain Li changed into civilian clothes and hurried out the door.

After leaving the Xicheng police station, Chen Ge took a cab back to New Century Amusement Park and locked himself alone in the haunted house break room.
"The bastard who drove Zhang Ya to her death is probably searching for the Ghost Story Association too. He disappeared at Building Three in the Fanghua Garden complex — there's a good chance he's already made it to the non-existent 24th floor and found the Ghost Story Association."
Chen Ge knew nothing about the Ghost Story Association. The flyer in his hand only gave the address.
"Zhang Ya fell from that building several years ago. The time gap is too wide — even if the police caught Zhu Xiu, convicting him would be difficult. You'd need a complete chain of evidence." Chen Ge wasn't a law student and didn't work in anything related to the legal field. He had no idea what kind of punishment awaited someone who drove a girl to her death.
"When you've done something wrong, you have to face the consequences." Chen Ge pulled out the Ghost Story Association's flyer. "This is something Zhang Ya should handle personally. My job is to find that scumbag."
His gaze fell on the flyer. The blood-red, half-open door was almost blinding — the symbol of the Ghost Story Association.
"Ride the elevator at midnight. Stop at every floor repeatedly. Finally, press the 24th floor, and you'll find the Ghost Story Association."
At the bottom of the flyer, a few rules of caution were listed.
You must enter the elevator alone at midnight. During the ride, if you encounter anyone else using the elevator, you've failed and must start over from the beginning.
During the ride, no matter what appears in the hallway, you must not step out of the elevator.
Whether or not you find the Ghost Story Association, you must carry a mask at all times. All members of the Association must conceal their true faces. You are forbidden from revealing your own information to anyone, and strictly prohibited from prying into anyone else's information.
Finally, and most importantly, you must not reveal any information related to the Ghost Story Association. You cannot tell a second person that you are searching for the Ghost Story Association.
These conditions — Chen Ge could basically meet all of them.
"I can only go alone, but it doesn't say I can't bring ghosts with me." Chen Ge tucked the ballpoint pen and tape cassette into his pocket, then thought about it and still felt it wasn't safe enough. "Xu Yin's ability is pretty limited — it only works when the tape is playing. The tape recorder's too bulky to carry around."
He walked a loop through the haunted house, then stuffed Little Little into his pocket as well. "The members of the Ghost Story Association — who knows if they're human or ghost. Showing up with the Skull Crusher and the butcher knife would just put them on edge."
"Better to play it safe."
Chen Ge used rope to bind the butcher knife wrapped in red cloth, preparing to tie it to his calf. As for the Skull Crusher, forget it — its design was way too distinctive. Bringing it along would make him the center of attention for sure.
"That's everything I can do for now."
After checking all his equipment, Chen Ge went online and ordered an ultra-slim voice recorder, though the delivery wouldn't arrive until tomorrow.
