Marcus Calenbury, the Sword Saint, is a blue-eyed elderly swordsman with slicked-back silver hair and a full beard, usually dressed in a suit and incongruous bright-red sneakers. An heir to a wealthy Northern European conglomerate born in Sweden, he entered the Tower alone, giving up his family, connections, and fortune. Before the regression he was the Rank 1 hunter, losing the crown to Yoo Soo-Ha only after vanishing for 22 days.
Beneath his intimidating presence he is, by the Sword Emperor's account, a genuinely kind man with a strict moral code—weak to the innocent, but merciless toward those he judges evil. He is notoriously sensitive about his grandchildren, and is rumored to talk to himself; in truth he is answering the ceaseless chatter of the Sword Emperor, whose disciple he is.
His skill "Detective's Insight" reveals an opponent's kill count. When it exposes Kim Gong-ja's staggering tally of roughly 4,090 self-inflicted deaths, Marcus takes him for a cold-blooded killer and beheads him. This killing leads Gong-ja to copy the "Sword Emperor" skill. Marcus also carries the "Sword Constellation" skill of a swordsman who reached his world's 99th floor.
