Roswaal L. Mathers is the lord of Roswaal Manor, head of House Mathers, the Dragon Kingdom's Head Court Mage, and margrave of its western territories. He publicly backs Emilia's bid for the throne and shelters her camp at his manor.
A tall, handsome man with long indigo hair, heterochromatic eyes, and clownish makeup and dress, Roswaal speaks in an eccentric drawl and behaves light-heartedly. Known as the "Demi-Human Lover" for hiring and educating demi-humans without asking anything in return, he conceals a coldly calculating, manipulative political mind willing to take drastic measures.
Since the age of fourteen he has carried the soul of his ancestor, Roswaal A. Mathers. Though he outwardly supports Emilia, he is in fact using her, Subaru, and Ram for his own ends — chiefly killing the Divine Dragon and resurrecting his mentor — making him the hidden architect behind many of the camp's trials.
