Otto Suwen is a former traveling merchant who becomes the internal-affairs officer of the Emilia Camp. He joins after his path crosses those of Subaru and Emilia, resolving to shield them from the world's dangers.
Otto has grey hair framing his face, sharp blue eyes, and a green merchant's outfit. Born under an unlucky star, he is easily flustered, sensitive, and often the butt of jokes, yet intensely loyal, courageous in defense of his friends, and willing to play the villain to keep the naive Subaru and Emilia from reckless danger.
Born the second son of the Suwen Company and bearing the Divine Protection of the Soul of Language — which lets him hear and speak with animals and other beings — Otto endured a lonely childhood before becoming a merchant. After joining the camp he turns his wariness on its backer, Roswaal, working to protect his friends from his schemes.
