Rudeus Greyrat

Rudeus Greyrat is the protagonist of "Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation". In his previous life he was a 34-year-old Japanese shut-in who had dropped out of school after relentless bullying and never re-emerged; he died saving high-school students from a truck. He woke as a newborn in the Fittoa village of Buena, son of the swordsman Paul Greyrat and the healer Zenith, retaining the memories and inner voice of his adult self.

Determined to live this life "properly", he masters silent water-magic by age three and becomes Roxy Migurdia's apprentice at seven; within months she certifies him as Advanced in three elements. By ten he is private tutor to Eris Boreas Greyrat at his great-uncle Sauros's estate. By eleven he is the only known human able to cast across the full spell ladder without an incantation.

Of average height and unusually muscular for a magician, Rudeus inherits his father's light-brown hair, which he wears tied back; a mole sits under his left eye. After the events on the Demon Continent, both eyes are replaced by Demon Eyes gifted by the Immortal Empress Kishirika Kishirisu — the right grants one second of foresight, the left lets him see magic power — which leaves him with mismatched irises.

His personality is shaped by self-disgust at his old life: outwardly modest, cautious, prone to underrating himself, yet fiercely loyal to friends and family. He inherits Notos-line lechery, which he never fully outgrows but channels into a strict monogamy-of-the-harem after marrying Sylphiette.

Rudeus's arc has four great movements. Childhood in Buena gives way to service at the Boreas estate, cut short by the Teleportation Incident that scatters all of Fittoa across the world. He lands on the Demon Continent and spends three years travelling back through Millis with Eris and Ruijerd in the Dead End party. Then a search for Zenith in Begaritt, where Paul dies. Then enrolment at Ranoa Magic Academy, marriage to Sylphiette and then Roxy and Eris, and finally an alliance with Orsted that fuels a lifelong war against Hitogami.

In combat Rudeus relies on an enormous mana pool (already at Advanced Saint level at birth), silent mixed-element spellcraft and engineering ingenuity: his self-built Magic Armor, the dolls and golems he develops with Zanoba and Sylphie. His weaknesses — limited physical stamina and ingrained insecurity — he overcomes by inventiveness and outright stubbornness.

By the end of the novel Rudeus is the head of ORSTED Corporation, husband to Sylphiette, Roxy and Eris, father of Lucy, Lara, Ars, Sieghart, Lily and Christina, the seventh of the Seven Great World Powers, and the world's acknowledged "God of Education" — the household around him being the clearest proof that this time, he did live properly.
