Namgung Cheon is the head of the illustrious Namgung Clan, now failing from a grave illness. Bedridden, he looks upon his son Namgung Yeon with eyes full of remorse and pity, begging forgiveness for the years he could not be present. His ailment worsens and his heir is not yet ready, so the once-unshakeable Namgung family begins to totter.
In rare moments of clarity Namgung Cheon grips his son's hand tightly, repents of the past, and implores him to become the strong Namgung Yeon of old, then sinks back into sleep. The head's illness and the heir's immaturity erode the Namgung family's standing, though it remains hard to shake even so.
