Jegal Yong is the second son of the illustrious Jegal family, a youth of brilliant mind, eloquent and of flawless looks. He is praised as a peerless strategist and an enviable match. But Han Seojin, who remembers the novel, calls him a cowardly bat: when war breaks out between the righteous and the demons, Jegal Yong will scheme out of fear to save his own skin and betray his own. Han reckons him the most insufferable character in the whole novel.
Jegal Yong appears among the three brilliant suitors at Tang Soran's marriage viewing, beside the magnate Wi Cheonsang and Namgung Yeon. But in the novel Han Seojin read, it is Jegal Yong's betrayal that wipes the Wudang Sect off the face of the earth and reduces Hubei province to a wasteland, while the Jegal family itself survives.
