Orthos

Orthos is a centuries-old sacred turtle descended from the black dragons that once ruled the Ashwind continent, a powerful beast who walks the destructive Path of Black Flame. Long ago a catastrophic duel crippled him and drove him mad, leaving him a raging shadow of his former self.

With the help of Lindon and the gentle spirit Little Blue — and later a restorative sojourn in the pocket world Ghostwater — Orthos gradually regains his sanity. He becomes Lindon's teacher in Blackflame and his contracted, bonded companion, the two of them sharing the fires of a single Path.

Gruff, proud and fiercely protective, Orthos carries the weariness of a long life and old wounds, but also a deep loyalty to those who helped restore him. As a sacred beast he need not undergo a human revelation to advance, and he fights at Lindon's side through some of the series' greatest battles.
