Schwartz (シュバルツ) and Weiss (ヴァイス) are a pair of magic tools built to resemble oversized shumils — small feybeasts — and created to assist the librarians of the Royal Academy's library. Schwartz has black fur and Weiss white, and each has golden eyes and a golden feystone set in its forehead.
Though they look and speak like living creatures, they are automata with no true personality, acting in a robotic manner and speaking in short, direct sentences. Elaborate magic circles are embroidered on their clothing, which each new master replaces; they can lend out and reshelve books, hand out carrel keys, and even estimate the library's holdings.
The pair require a master with enormous mana to power them. When Rozemyne enrolls at the Royal Academy, she becomes their new master, dresses them anew, and makes them a beloved fixture of her library life.
