House Elfein

House Elfein is a ducal house from which Miria hails, a 'saint' and candidate for pope of the Theocracy of Zairant. The house's hallmark is female-line succession: daughters become heiresses, and husbands marry into the house.

Miria, the Elfein heiress, was sickly in childhood - coughing from the 'unclean air' - and was saved from death by Varis's sanitation reforms. She spent seven years in the Theocracy of Zairant, where she wielded the highest sacred magic, but renounced her ordination as pope for love of Varis and joined his harem as one of the three heroines. In the finale it is she who performs the supreme rite summoning the creator-god, saving the world without a single sacrifice and earning recognition as the 'greatest saint.'
