Bebe is Linley's lifelong companion, first found in the Baruch ancestral hall as a small black mouse gnawing on rubble. He is in truth a Godeater Rat — only the second of his kind in the entire history of the universe: his father was king of the Stone-Eater Rats of the Mountain Range of Magical Beasts and his mother a Shadowmouse. For most of the story he keeps the form of a small black mouse, taking a slim human shape only after reaching demigod rank.
Lazy, hot-tempered and a born prankster, Bebe is nonetheless fiercely protective and utterly loyal to Linley, whom he regards as both master and brother. Unable to tame the infant beast by force, Linley instead spent a year winning his trust, and the two formed a bond of equals. Bebe accompanies Linley through nearly every trial thereafter.
Later summoned by the ancient Beirut, Bebe learns of his lineage and the death of his parents and sets out to avenge them, growing in power alongside Linley. In time he falls in love with and marries Nisse.
